Unlocking potential: the intersection of women’s health and economic outcomes

Re:State were delighted to host a panel exploring the key challenges preventing better outcomes in women’s health, as well as the intersection between women’s health and economic outcomes. With reducing economic inactivity and shifting to a more preventive, community-based health system at the heart of the Government’s priorities, the importance of women’s health in these aims must not be overlooked.

Beyond those health conditions which only affect women and girls, there are many which disproportionately affect them, including mental health issues, autoimmune diseases, and migraines. These conditions are typically best managed in primary care, but too often women and girls struggle to access such care.

The consequences extend far beyond individual wellbeing, contributing to economic inactivity, increased sick leave, and reduced productivity. The case for taking women’s health more seriously is clear.

Re:State were honoured to be joined by an exceptional panel: Dr Amanda Doyle OBE, National Director of Primary Care and Community Services, NHS England; Dr Sue Mann, National Clinical Director for Women’s Health, NHS England; and Baroness Geeta Nargund, Founder, Health Equality Foundation, and women’s health pioneer. This write-up brings together the key themes which emerged during the discussion.
