A future-ready system: digital transformation in the Home Office

Led by DDaT the Home Office has embraced innovation, particularly within migration and borders operations. However, technical debt, legacy systems, complex policies and manual processes have held back the speed and scale of change.

Digital transformation presents unique challenges within the Home Office’s operating context. From biometric information and visa applications to counterterrorism intelligence and policing records, the department handles some of the most complex, high-risk datasets in government. Designing digital services that uphold security, privacy, and legal obligations while meeting operational demands requires innovation at a scale and intensity matched by few other public sector organisations.

The 2024 DDaT Strategy, built around six principles for change, outlines a bold vision for how the Home Office can overcome these challenges and build on current momentum to become “digital by design”. Achieving this would represent a radical transition towards a more agile, effective and future-ready department.

Re:State is delighted to welcome Rob Thompson, Chief Technology Officer, Home Office, to explore how the Home Office has driven its digital transformation forward, and opportunities to share best practice which can unlock productivity, boost efficiency and strengthen capabilities across all of government.

This private roundtable will take place under Chatham House rule and is kindly supported by Appian.
