In Government, the Conservative Party focused on transforming the health system to make it efficient, innovative and patient-centric. Innovations, such as the creation of Pharmacy First and the rollout of Primary Care Networks, helped shift care into communities and closer to home.
Continuing progress towards a community-centric healthcare system will require collaboration throughout the system, as well as with local government, the voluntary sector and industry. Embracing innovation and enabling the wider primary care ecosystem is also essential. Recent developments in community pharmacy policy, for example, including reforms to support the expansion of clinical services such as independent prescribing, have renewed focus on the role pharmacies could play in improving access to care. As these changes are implemented, this is a vital moment to explore the future role of community pharmacy and what is valued most from community-centric systems.
