New technologies in social care have proven they can support people to live independently for longer, reduce hospital admissions and readmissions, accelerate discharge and generate significant cost savings in both social care and the NHS. And successfully implementing these technologies will be essential to ensuring that the Government’s 'care at home' model is achieved.
However, the challenge (and opportunity) lies in reimagining how we commission these new and improved solutions so they can be embedded at scale, not in isolation or as an afterthought.
Successful adoption requires moving beyond seeing technology as one council or trust’s ‘leap of faith’, instead rethinking how systems operate. From procurement and delivery models for tech to reviewing financial flows across the NHS and local authorities, the policy considerations are wide ranging. This discussion will explore how we drive meaningful long-term change.
