The new Government have been clear on the need to decisively shift care out of hospitals and into communities, with the aim to create what they call a ‘Neighbourhood Health Service’. This radical alternative to the current hospital-centric model has transformative potential.
At the heart of this vision are neighbourhood health centres, providing altogether more accessible, proactive, and patient-centred care. These centres promise a new era of multidisciplinary, joined-up health services. But this will only be achieved by being honest about, and directly addressing, long-standing barriers to change – including a siloed funding model, inadequate infrastructure, fragmented data, and a workforce geared towards reactive interventions rather than health creation.
Re:State is delighted to welcome Dr Minal Bakhai MBE, Director of Primary Care Transformation at NHS England, to reflect on her role as Senior Responsible Officer for the National Neighbourhood Health Implementation Programme, bringing her deep experience in driving system change through both national policy and frontline practice.
This is a private event which will be held under the Chatham House rule and is kindly supported by Boots.
