There is pressing need for radically different approaches to the design and delivery of public services. The Government has recognised this, developing innovative practice through missions and test-and-learn experiments. But perhaps the most promising avenue for the creation of a more innovative, entrepreneurial, and asset-based approach to public services emerges from devolution.
By taking context-sensitive and localised approaches, devolved bodies can become laboratories for the public services within their jurisdictions: implementing new technologies, integrating efforts across siloes, putting data to the best possible use, and empowering their front line to solve problems and work co-productively with the communities that they serve.
Re:State is delighted to hold this Labour Party Conference panel with Kirsty McClean, Executive Director of Public Sector Innovation, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority; Susan Jarvis, Co-Director, Heseltine Institute for Public Policy, Practice and Place, University of Liverpool; Racheal Jones, Chief Executive Officer, One Knowsley; Jack Shaw, Director of Groundwork Research; and more guests to be confirmed, to explore the role of devolution – and stronger, more autonomous local systems generally – in the push for more innovative public services.
This event is kindly sponsored by Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
