Labour Party Conference - Frontier AI: Securing UK leadership and managing risk

Frontier AI systems offer the UK a generational opportunity. These powerful models can drive breakthroughs in science, boost productivity, and transform public services. At the same time, their scale and sophistication bring new challenges. From managing concentrated market power in the sector, to ensuring systems remain safe and transparent, and raising questions about how the UK should adapt its regulatory institutions to enable innovation, the AI era will reshape much of the economy as we know it.  

The UK is well-placed to lead on this agenda. With strong research institutions, a vibrant tech ecosystem, and a track record of principled governance, it has the foundations to shape international rules and standards for frontier AI. But doing so will require decisive action to anticipate and respond to emerging risks – and working with global partners to build a secure and beneficial future.   

Re:State is delighted to hold this Labour Party Conference in conversation event with Kanishka Narayan MP , Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology to explore how the UK can balance innovation and risk in frontier AI – from setting global standards and fostering responsible competition, to ensuring these technologies deliver tangible benefits for citizens.
