Our ageing population is challenging current models of health and care, with increasing demand placing significant strain on both the NHS and local authority adult social care budgets. Yet within this, significant capacity and resource is being wasted in the form of untailored care packages, poor risk detection and delays to hospital discharge.
In addition to meaning that resources are not being deployed as effectively as they could be, this is also impacting outcomes and reducing user satisfaction. Individuals consistently report wanting to live as independently as possible, for as long as possible, in their own homes. Yet many who find themselves in hospital do not return to the same level of independence they enjoyed pre-admittance.
Much has been made of game-changing medical advancements in supporting an ageing population, but the potential of technological innovation in models of care is enormous – and low cost. In short, technology, smartly deployed, offers the opportunity to deliver a double dividend of better outcomes for those needing care and better value for taxpayers.
Re:State is delighted to welcome Michelle Dyson, Director General, Adult Social Care, Department of Health and Social Care, to discuss the potential of innovative tools to boost an individual’s quality of life by supporting their independence, and how to overcome the obstacles to scaling these innovations across the system.
This is a private roundtable which will be held under the Chatham House rule and is kindly supported by Lilli.
