The demands on some public services are often downstream of others. To build a preventative State, the operating ‘silos’ of government need to be broken down, so opportunities for prevention are not neglected until they become ‘someone else’s problem’. As the Government has recognised, nowhere is this more possible than at a local level.
Yet while policy developed in Whitehall relies on local leaders to successfully deliver it, and local leaders are often reliant on central government for resources and powers, often these systems operate in isolation. The test and learn programme is seeking to overcome this, enabling experimentation, and ensuring best-practice is captured and scaled.
Re:State is delighted to welcome Nick Kimber, Director, Public Service Reform, Cabinet Office, to explore how government can create the conditions for much more effective place-based prevention.
This is a private event which will be held under the Chatham House rule and is kindly supported by Newton.
