Economic inactivity is one of the biggest challenges facing the UK – representing a huge loss of human talent and acting as a profound drag on growth. The Work and Pensions Secretary has said that "spiralling inactivity is the greatest employment challenge for a generation". It means soaring welfare costs, social exclusion and even poorer health, and a diminished pool of labour for business.
Addressing this is urgent, and core to the Government's missions to grow the economy and break down the barriers to opportunity. The Government's White Paper ‘Get Britain Working’ outlined a compelling strategy across social security, health and skills, the task now is to deliver it.
Re:State is delighted to welcome Angus Gray, Director, Pathways to Work, Connect to Work, Localism & Employment Support, Department for Work and Pensions, to introduce this ‘Policy-meets-Practice’ workshop discussion.
This workshop will involve practitioners, experts, and policy professionals from across central, regional, and local government, working together to learn from participants’ experiences and arrive at practical proposals.
This is a private event which will be held under the Chatham House rule and is kindly supported by Newton.
