The productivity puzzle has long haunted the NHS. Despite increasing resources, outcomes and public satisfaction have declined. With growing demand, long waiting lists, and an ageing population, the need to unlock meaningful productivity gains in the NHS has never been more urgent.
Many remedies have been proposed, from boosting capital investment, to enhancing management capabilities, to capitalising on technological advances. Indeed, unlocking productivity gains will require bold ideas and targeted interventions. The role of automation in particular could transform the modern hospital – automating basic functions would enable the time of clinical experts to be redirected to functions and process that only they can do. Exploring these frontier innovations will be essential to overcoming the productivity puzzle.
Re:State is delighted to welcome Kevin McKenna, MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey to lead this discussion on the practical steps needed to deliver productivity gains for the NHS.
This private roundtable will be held in-person and will take place under the Chatham House rule. This event is kindly sponsored by BD.
